About Us

Shore Break Recovery

Shore Break Recovery offers a range of therapeutic services to men in recovery.  We believe a thoughtful, tailored clinical approach to treating substance use disorder can contribute immensely to a strong foundation in recovery.

Our clinical team centers their work on 12-step facilitation therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. We thoughtfully integrate a wealth of additional evidence-based treatments into our clinical programming.  Our mission to end the cycle of addiction demands a unique approach to care, including frequent experiential therapy groups.

More About Us

Shore Break’s History

Shore Break Recovery developed their clinical programming and Intensive Outpatient to enhance clinical programming for Surfside, creating a true long-term extended care model in the heart of southern NJ. With a collaborative spirit, Ian Koch, MS, LCADC and Dan Miranda, MS, LCADC thoughtfully designed an outpatient program (PHP, IOP, OP) that enhances one’s transition from the structure of treatment to an independent life in recovery from Substance Use Disorder. Although the doors of Shore Break did not open until 2021, both Dan and Ian have extensive experience building dynamic, nationally recognized programming for men in recovery from addiction. Together, they bring over 30 years of experience working in the mental health and substance use space and are honored to support the next generation of skilled clinicians.

Here, he supports & develops our clinical team with a deep understanding of Surfside’s mission.

His versatility, compassion and 15+ years of experience make him a powerful leader who oversees Shore Break’s clinical programming. He understands the complexities of the Surfside program, our unique population, and the need for comprehensive family involvement. Dan provides regular supervision to our Shore Break Recovery clinical team, driven by the desire to build a strong & dynamic clinical team.

Nick Geissler, MS, CFI
Director of Recovery Coaching & Therapeutic Services
Nick Geissler is the heart and soul of Shore Break Recovery.  WIth a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Nick is the perfect combination of kind, funny, direct and firm – traits that are incredibly useful in treating men with substance use disorders.  While initially studying for a Master’s in Education, Nick began working at Bonnie Brae, a residential facility for adolescent boys.  This work piqued his interest in the mental health field and he eventually transferred to the child/adolescent MICA PHP/IOP at Trinitas Regional Medical Center. As he became more passionate about treating substance use disorder, he shifted the focus of his Master’s while working for Surfside Recovery Services.  Upon completing his Master’s, Nick worked closely with Surfside’s Executive Director and Program Director to build a comprehensive recovery coaching program for men in early recovery, with an emphasis on communication with family and sober support systems as men transition to independent living.  At the heart of his clinical approach is a wholehearted belief that men can and do recover from addiction and live meaningful lives.

Kevin Kittredge is currently enrolled in Capella University’s Master’s of Addiction Studies program. Kevin joined the Shore Break team after working in direct care at Surfside Recovery Services, where he brought humor and positivity to residents in a long-term extended care. Kevin is skilled at helping our clients identify beliefs and attitudes that feel comfortable but are actually detrimental, creating a partnership with clients as they begin to change. His love of music, sports and the great outdoors are integrated into his work, as he believes recovery enables men to rediscover life’s joys.

Ryuta Amaike, BA, CPRS, CADC Intern
Ryuta (pronounced Utah) is currently at CADC Intern, studying at ACCC’s Addiction Counseling Specialist Program. He is a skilled athlete and Level 2 CrossFit coach, training both people in recovery and the general community at Saltwater Athletics (located just next door to Shore Break). He enjoys motivating men during challenging workouts, encouraging them to shift their mindset and utilize positive self talk. Ryuta believes that the skills we learn in those moments translate to life in recovery, strengthening mental stamina as we complete difficult but rewarding tasks.
