ShoreBreak Recovery’s outpatient program in New Jersey gives you weekly therapy while you keep up with work, school, or family. Sessions take place at our Manahawkin location, and you’ll go home afterward. Many arrive after completing a higher level of care, such as our Partial Care Program. We work with people across South Jersey and Ocean County. Our center is accredited by the Joint Commission.
What Is Outpatient Care?
ShoreBreak’s Outpatient Program (OP), also known as our General Outpatient Program (GOP) in NJ, is the least intensive level of addiction care we offer. It allows individuals to attend scheduled clinical sessions while living at home or in a sober living environment. OP does not require clients to stay on-site and includes fewer therapy hours than higher levels of treatment.
At ShoreBreak Recovery, OP is often the next step after completing Partial Care (PC) or an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Clients “step down” to outpatient when they no longer need the structure of daily therapy but still benefit from continued clinical support. In our program, this typically includes one group session and one individual therapy session per week. This phase allows clients to apply recovery tools in daily life while staying connected to clinical support.

Who Is OP for?
OP is best suited for individuals who have achieved some stability in their recovery. It is often recommended for those who:
- Have completed a more intensive program, such as IOP or PC
- Do not require detox or 24-hour supervision
- Can manage daily responsibilities while staying committed to recovery
- Live in a supportive home or sober living environment
- Want continued structure and guidance while transitioning into independent living
At our facility, each client completes a personalized assessment to determine if outpatient care is the best fit. This ensures every individual receives the right level of support at the right time.
Benefits of Outpatient Care
Outpatient rehab in NJ gives you clinical support while you keep managing work, school, or family life. It is ideal for those seeking more independence without disconnecting from treatment.
This flexibility allows clients to apply recovery tools in real time, then reflect and adjust in a safe therapeutic space. They continue developing resilience and accountability while maintaining forward progress.
Remaining connected to a recovery community also helps prevent isolation and setbacks. ShoreBreak Recovery ensures that every outpatient client still has access to licensed therapists, peer support, and wellness-focused services. OP promotes growth and confidence while preserving essential structure.
Our Outpatient Services
Our outpatient care provides weekly group and individual sessions, along with access to both clinical and peer-based support. Treatment plans are customized to meet each client’s recovery goals and daily responsibilities.
Many of our Recovery Coaching clients are also active in OP, benefiting from structured support while adjusting to life without mind- or mood-altering substances. Outpatient care provides a consistent space to evaluate progress and build on momentum.

Outpatient and Long-Term Recovery
Transitioning from structured treatment to independent living brings new challenges. OP bridges that gap, offering accountability and clinical support without removing daily freedom.
At our center, we help clients build emotional strength, increase self-awareness, and reinforce the progress they have made. OP supports long-term recovery by maintaining momentum, preparing for challenges, and helping each person stay aligned with their goals.

Understanding the Difference Between OP and IOP
Not sure if OP or IOP is right for you? Here’s the difference: OP includes one group and one individual session a week. IOP adds more sessions each week for those who need extra support.

How to Get Started
Taking the first step into outpatient care can feel overwhelming. At ShoreBreak Recovery, we make the process as supportive and simple as possible.
Here is what to expect when you join our outpatient program in New Jersey:
- Initial Consultation: We will discuss your history, needs, and recovery goals.
- Assessment: Our clinical team will determine if OP is the right level of care.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How is outpatient care different from seeing an individual therapist on my own?
Outpatient care at ShoreBreak adds weekly group sessions, recovery coaching, and case management to your individual therapy. One treatment plan ties them together, so your therapist, coach, and case manager work toward the same goals. Relapse prevention planning is part of that plan.
Which substances does the outpatient program treat?
Our team treats alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants, hallucinogens, MDMA, and synthetic drugs in outpatient care. Opioids include heroin, fentanyl, and oxycodone. Your assessment shapes the plan for whichever substance you use.
What happens if I return to substance use during outpatient care?
Tell your therapist or recovery coach as soon as you can. Your team can adjust your plan, and relapse prevention is part of our outpatient services. A return to substance use doesn’t erase the progress you’ve already made.
Does ShoreBreak work with my insurance?
ShoreBreak works with Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, Humana, UMR, Carelon, UHC, BCBS, Oscar, and Horizon. Coverage for outpatient care depends on your plan, so our team verifies your benefits before you enroll.
Can I call about outpatient care for a family member?
Yes. Call (609) 200-5895 to learn about options and next steps for someone you care about. The person who would attend completes the assessment, because our team recommends a level of care based on it.
